What does it take to be a leader?
“Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.”
- Ruth Bader Ginsburg
You might have heard the phrase “Leaders aren’t born, they are made.” At LLI, we take that to heart. We help you develop some of the skills necessary for strong leadership. The attributes below are just some of the traits you will develop during your time with LLI.
Leaders are confident in their roles. At LLI, you will practice mock trials and debates, and have the opportunity to challenge yourself to be a more confident individual and a future leader in your community.
Leaders have courage to stand up for what they believe. Its not easy standing up and speaking out. The Law and a leadership Institute will help you find and develop your voice. As you gain confidence to speak your mind in front of your peers, you will get a clearer picture of who you are and how you can lead yourself and others.
Effective leaders are competent, meaning they have the skills to get the job done. At LLI, you will develop skills such as public speaking, advocacy, and critical thinking--skills essential for strong leaders now and in the future.
Leaders have a vision of what needs to be done. Lawyers are advocates for their clients and their causes. You need a clear vision of what you want to accomplish in order to be an effective advocate. At LLI, you will learn how to look at both sides of an issue and defend what you believe.
Leaders are accountable to others. One thing we believe in at LLI is accountability. You will work closely with your peers and your instructors to help each other succeed.
