In a press release from Sen. Brown’s office, Sen. Brown went on to say "His (William’s) successes in the classroom, as a participant in the Law and Leadership Institute, and in Mock Trial and Moot Court have prepared him well for his upcoming term on Capitol Hill. Only a small fraction of students are allowed the opportunity to serve as a Senate page, and I know that William will represent Ohio and Cleveland well over the course of the page program.”

When asked about the appointment, William said, “I am excited for this opportunity. Not many people get to experience it. For me to be a Senate page will be a great opportunity.” William feels that his appointment is a landmark because of the national prestige of the program. He hopes his appointment, twill open more opportunities for students at his school.

“It is with great excitement and honor that we announce that one of our students, William Clayton, has been selected for the United States Senate Page Program,” said Cleveland School of Science and Medicine Principal Edward Weber. “This achievement reflects the hard work of our teachers and students every day. It is a wonderful opportunity for William!”

Summer Institute Law Firm Internships are Real World Experiences for LLI Sophomores

OSU Sophomore LLI Students at Law Firm Internship

During the final week of the sophomore LLI Summer Institute, students participate in a fulltime internship within a local law firm or corporate partner legal office.

Internship hosts for each city are brought together for a “training” via conference call or luncheon. The training is accompanied by the provision of an Internship Manual. The Internship Manual contains a sample schedule for the four-day program and a suggested list of outside activities (shadowing, court house visits, etc.), which can be tailored to best fit the sponsoring firm or company’s needs. The manual is designed to truly make this program “plug and play” and as easy and enjoyable as possible for both the students and host attorneys. LLI students earn $250 upon successful completion of the internship.

The program has proven beneficial for LLI students and internship hosts. One firm state that they were “very pleased with the students’ preparation and professionalism. Keep doing what you’re doing.” Another firm shared that LLI students were “enthusiastic, prepared, friendly, confident and impressive.”
